Teen Suspect in Las Vegas Casino Cyberattacks Surrenders
A teenage suspect tied to the “Scattered Spider” hacking group surrendered in Las Vegas, facing extortion and computer crime charges in the 2023 casino cyberattacks.

LAS VEGAS —A teenage male is facing serious charges in connection with a string of cyberattacks that targeted several major Las Vegas casino properties in 2023.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the intrusions occurred between August and October 2023 and were linked to a well-known cybercriminal group operating under names such as Scattered Spider, Octo Tempest, UNC3944, and 0ktapus.
Because of the scope and sophistication of the breaches, the FBI’s Las Vegas Cyber Task Force—working alongside LVMPD’s Cyber Investigative Group—took over the investigation. Detectives later identified a juvenile suspect.
On September 17, 2025, the teen surrendered to the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center. He was booked on multiple felony charges, including:
- Three counts of obtaining and using another person’s personal identifying information
- One count of extortion
- One count of conspiracy to commit extortion
- One count of unlawful acts regarding computers
The Clark County District Attorney’s Office is seeking to move the case into the criminal division so the suspect can be tried as an adult.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the cyberattacks to contact the LVMPD Cyber Investigative Group at [email protected]. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or online at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
